Ride with coworkers you actually know.
WorkRyde is a carpool app for people with a verified work email. A driver posts the stages they already pass on the way to the office. You book a seat on that route and pay from your wallet, so no cash changes hands in the car.
There is no web sign-in. Everything happens in the app.
From sign-up to seat belt.
No cash, no surge, no bidding. The route is the thing everything else hangs off.
Verify your work email
We email a code to your work address. Before that, we check the domain has mail records and a live website, and we reject about 43,000 known disposable-email domains. Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook addresses cannot be used.
The driver picks their stages
A driver posts the stages they already stop at, up to six. Those stages go to Google Directions as ordered waypoints, so they are the route, not a suggestion around it. The app suggests stages from what other drivers on that route have already used.
Riders search that route
You can search by stage name and filter by how far the nearest stage is from you. The route on the map is the route the driver committed to.
Pay from your wallet
Top up the wallet, and the fare is held when you book. It moves to the driver when the ride completes. Drivers never take cash.
Pickup has a clock on it
When the driver reaches your stage the app opens an arrival prompt with a countdown. It is currently 3 minutes and operators can change it. If it runs out the driver can mark a no-show and move on. If the driver leaves before it runs out you are refunded in full and the driver takes a strike.
You confirm your own drop-off
Each rider confirms their own stop, so a shared car does not end everyone's trip at once. That confirmation is what releases the driver's earning.
Three ways to stop rebooking every morning.
Pools
A standing crew of up to four riders that hires one driver on a repeating weekly schedule. Drivers offer a price per leg, and any member of the pool can confirm which driver gets it. You can skip a single day without leaving the pool.
Subscriptions
Prepay a recurring seat with one driver for one, two or three months. The term is paid up front and the daily bookings are created for you.
Hail-Down
For the mornings you did not plan. Flag a driver who is already passing you and heading your way. Matching uses the driver's live position, their bearing within 45 degrees, and a 800 metre corridor around their route. A hail carries a premium on top of the fare, currently KES 50.
The server checks the driver's GPS, not the story.
Everyone has an employer on file
You cannot reach a ride listing without a verified work email. Riders and drivers both go through the same check.
SOS to your own contacts
The SOS button texts every emergency contact you saved, with a Google Maps link to where you are, and opens a case for our team. It works whether or not a ride is running.
Diversion reports are adjudicated
Report a driver who left the route and the server compares their own GPS track against the route they posted. A single stray reading never counts. A confirmed report refunds you in full.
